My Phase is not detected in Phase Manager.

Symptom and description

It may happen that your Phase unit is not detected in Phase Manager when you connect the Receiver to your computer. Here are 4 steps that should help you get it resolved. 
  


Issue resolution

Step 1 – Quick checks first

Sometimes a simple restart is all it takes.

  • Quit Phase Manager completely, then relaunch it.
  • Unplug the Receiver from its USB port, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in.
  • Check that the Receiver is actually powered: the lightning icon LED on the back of the unit should be lit.


Step 2 – Check your USB connection

A faulty cable or port is one of the most common causes of detection issues.

  • Try a different USB cable.
  • Try a different USB port directly on your computer.
  • Avoid plugging the Receiver into your DJ mixer's USB hub. Some mixers do not deliver enough power, which can prevent detection.
  • If none of your computer ports work, try a powered USB hub (one with its own external power supply).


Step 3 – Windows only: update the WinUSB driver

If you are on Windows and the Receiver is still not showing up, the driver may need a manual update.

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  3. Right-click on Phase and select Update driver.
  4. Choose "Browse my computer for driver software", then "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer".
  5. Select WinUSB and confirm.
  6. Restart your computer, close any app that might be using Phase, and relaunch Phase Manager.


Step 4 – Close background applications

Certain apps running in the background can interfere with USB communication.

  • If you are running a Virtual Machine (VMware, Parallels, etc.), quit it. Virtual machines can take over USB ports and block Phase Manager from accessing the Receiver.
  • Open Activity Monitor (macOS) or Task Manager (Windows) and close anything that is not needed.
