You can swap a Remote mid-set without stopping the music. Here is how to do it cleanly.
Why you might need this
If a Remote runs out of battery during a performance, or you want to hand off a deck to another DJ, you can link a fresh Remote to the Receiver while the set is running.
How to switch a Remote
- Place the new (charged) Remote into the dock of the deck you want to reassign (A or B).
- Long-press the corresponding A or B setup button for 3 seconds to link the new Remote.
- The previously linked Remote will flash red briefly and turn white, indicating it has been disconnected from that deck.
- Take the new Remote out of the dock and place it on the turntable. Wait for the LED to turn solid (calibration complete) before spinning.
Tips for a clean swap
- Have the replacement Remote fully charged before the set.
- The swap itself takes about 5 seconds. The calibration after placement takes a few more seconds.
- In DVS mode, the deck will continue playing from the Receiver's output during the swap. In HID mode, the deck may briefly lose control until the new Remote finishes calibrating.
- If you are on a 2-turntable setup, you can only spin the deck with the active Remote. During the calibration of the new Remote, keep that platter still.
FAQ
Can I swap both Remotes at the same time?
You can, but it is not recommended during a live set. Swap one at a time to avoid losing control of both decks simultaneously.
Does the new Remote inherit the deck assignment of the previous one?
Yes. Linking to dock A assigns the new Remote to deck A, same as before.
